Topic: “Improving Labor Productivity in Egypt’s Ready-Made Garments Sector”

Apparel and clothing are the largest category of goods exported under the Qualifying Industrial Zone (QIZ) program, comprising over 90 percent of all QIZ exports and 24% of Egypt's total exports (excluding oil). Despite all the success of the industry under the QIZ program, export growth of garments to the US is leveling off; largely due to the challenges surrounding labor productivity in this vital sector. The workshop focused on the findings of a group of eminent experts who studied a sample of textile factories in the Egyptian QIZs. The experts identified key problems and presented their solutions to improve labor productivity.
