Mainstreaming Development In The WTO
“The Doha round is no longer recognizable. The Doha Development Agenda (DDA) has been totally disfigured and its developmental dimensions blemished. Three mini-conferences over the last three years have failed dismally to bring it back on track. Do we need a new model of trade negotiations as an alternative path to the Doha Development Round? Is the WTO dead? The paper attempts to answer these and other relevant questions to the ongoing negotiations in the WTO. It argues convincingly that the WTO remains a credible institution that serves the interests of developing and developed countries alike. However, there is a dire need to mainstream development in the trade negotiations and respect the original objective of the Doha round that focus on linking trade with development and poverty reduction.”
