  • The WTO Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU) has proven to be the cornerstone of the WTO, the purpose of which is to guarantee that all countries adhere to their commitments, comply with WTO trading rules and honour the rights of others.
  • The WTO Settlement Mechanism is considered crucial to the stability, security and predictability of the multilateral trade system.
  • The widespread disappointment from the Doha Round negotiations will precipitate a flurry of disputes expanding the usage of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism.

In this context the Trade-related Assistance Centre at the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham/TRAC) and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) are pleased to invite you, in your personal capacity, to the:

“Dialogue on WTO Dispute Settlement”

This Conference will help furnish a platform for the private sector to engage in discussions with WTO experts, as well as enhance the transparency of trade negotiations the government is conducting and further the private sector’s engagement in Egypt’s foreign trade policy. Experts from Egypt and Geneva have been brought together to discuss and reflect upon:
  • Why is the WTO dispute settlement crucial for the private sector?
  • How could the Egyptian Business Community better utilize it?
  • How to facilitate a more effective involvement of the private sector in the system?
